“You escalated things,” Diane replied coldly.
Khloe crossed her arms dramatically.
“She’s always trying to make me look bad.”
Emma felt something inside her finally crack.
This wasn’t about arguments anymore.
This wasn’t about family tension.
Her daughter was in danger.
“I need an ambulance,” Emma said.
Diane’s lips tightened.
“Apologize first.”
Emma looked at all three of them.
Her mother.
Her father.
Her sister.
All protecting the person who pushed her.
Another painful cramp hit her body.
Then Luna moved weakly beneath her hand.
Emma inhaled shakily.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered.
Khloe’s face changed instantly.
Triumph flashed across her eyes.
“For what?” Khloe asked softly.
Emma understood everything in that moment.
“For making you angry,” Emma forced out.
“And for not giving you my credit card.”
Diane relaxed with relief.
“There,” she said gently. “Now we can move on.”
That was when Emma reached for her phone.
